In order to complete this activity, kids will require pattern blocks. I suggest you laminate the pages to make them more durable for repeated use. Then cut the pages in half and hole punch in the top left corner. Now attach a ring clip so your children can easily create and switch between various design cards.
Each card contains a farm themed picture including a cat, chicken, cow, dog, donkey, duck, goat, horse, sheep and a turkey.
Some children will immediately see the animal in the blocks, others may have trouble with the creativity needed to decifer the image. Having pictures of real animals to set out with the activity can help.
After recreating the picture with their pattern blocks, children can then fill in the blanks below the picture. Here they will write the number of each of the six shaped blocks that they used to create the picture – rhombuses, trapezoids, triangles, parallelograms, squares and hexagons.
