As a kid, I made several visits to Washington, DC, and each trip was special. However, as an adult, I have many friends who live in DC and I hear that it is a wonderful place to live. If you are considering moving, here are some reasons from a reader why you should consider living in Washington, DC.

When we talk about reasons to live in a particular city, there are many aspects to consider because we all end up having different priorities. That being said, cities with the greatest potential to attract people are cities with a multitude of different aspects. And which city is better to speak of in terms of diversity than one of the largest and most historic cities in the world, Washington DC. With that in mind, in this article we're going to talk about what factors make Washington DC such an attractive place to live.

nature

Anyone who needs walks in the park, green bike routes and just a touch of nature will consider this to be the deciding factor when choosing where to live. Washington DC, while a large city with lots of living space, also has plenty of green spaces to offer its citizens, making it much easier to spend time away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The beautifully landscaped gardens and parks across Washington DC offer a variety of activities, including picnicking, hiking, walking, and biking.

Washington DC has many major bike routes. One of the most popular is the historic Chesapeake & Ohio Canal from Georgetown to Cumberland. One of the region's finest gems is the 446-acre US National Arboretum, which actually houses one of the largest collections of bonsai trees in all of North America.

Employment opportunities

First thing first - if you're looking for a government job, there probably isn't a better place to look than in Washington DC. That being said, although the majority of the Washington DC workforce is made up of the federal government and contract workers, there are also many different options. Washington DC is also home to a host of other large corporations. Since it's a fairly large city, it's a great place for entertainment and tourism jobs, as well as healthcare and business. So basically, there is a good chance that no matter what you're looking for, you're likely to find a job.

diversity

This factor now applies to many different topics. First, Washington DC is the sixth most racially diverse city in the United States! Second, did you know that over 10% of adults in Washington DC identify as part of the LGBTQA + community? That is almost three times more than the national average. So you understand, whoever you are you will find your place and community in this city.

Places to live

Diversity also applies to different suburbs, counties, and places of residence in general. Whatever you're looking for, chances are you'll find it. If you are looking for an urban lifestyle and want to enjoy the hustle and bustle of city life, there are many different apartments and condominiums to choose from.

If you don't want to be the center of all the events but don't want to see yourself in the suburbs either, there are plenty of options too - and the apartments on 16th Street are a must when it comes to areas like this one. So you can be pretty close to the city center and still have some peace and quiet.

Of course, there are also suburban homes for those who don't enjoy city life. These suburbs are among the best in the country when it comes to education levels, school rankings, and income. There are even rural farmhouses for those who really want to get away from the hustle and bustle and really enjoy the silence and peace.

history

Washington DC was founded back in 1791 to become the capital of the United States. This city was steeped in history from the start - so today it offers an unprecedented glimpse into American history. That said, if you're a history buff, you'll have a lot of fun exploring Washington DC.

The weather conditions

Even if this is initially overlooked by many people, we find it a great advantage. Washington DC has very even weather conditions. Unlike the regions and cities in the north that have freezing winters, or the skin-blowing heat of Tennessee, for example, Washington DC has all four seasons of the same intensity. So if you live in Washington you can enjoy every aspect of the year.

Vacation options

Washington DC is in such a perfect position that you have so many easy and affordable options for vacation travel since it is in the country's mid-Atlantic region. If you're looking for a getaway to the beach, many beautiful beaches such as Ocean City, Maryland, and Virginia Beach are only a three-hour drive away. If you want to go into the mountains, the Maryland Mountains can be reached in just an hour or so. Even big cities like New York and Philadelphia are only three hours away.

There is a lot to be done

You'd really have to work to get bored in a city like Washington DC. There are so many things to do and places to see, for example, let's talk a little about sports. In principle, professional sport is practiced in some stadiums at any time of the year, any time of year and at almost any time of day. We also mentioned the historical aspect of Washington DC, but did you know that some of the largest and most prestigious museums in the state are free?

And not to mention random street festivals that happen very often. There are also tons of restaurants, bars, pubs and the like for you to explore. When it comes to restaurants in particular, know that brunch culture is very common in Washington DC, and most places are packed with people around 11am.

In conclusion

In the end, the main thing we wanted to emphasize in this article is that there is something for everyone in Washington DC. Whether it's communities, places to live, things, or basically anything else, this city is so diverse and you will surely find yourself in it.
