How to Store Leftovers

You can store mug cakes at room temperature for 24 hours. Wrap the mug or container tightly with plastic wrap or keep in an airtight container so the cake does not dry out.

Reheating Mug Cakes

You can reheat your mug cake but do it in very short bursts so you don’t dry the cake out. Microwave it in 10 second increments until it is warm again so that it does not end up dry and rubbery.

Can I make mug cakes ahead of time?

Mug cakes are meant to be enjoyed warm and baked fresh, so it is not recommended to make them ahead of time. However, you can prepare the dry ingredients in advance and store them in an airtight container for convenience. Then all you have to do is add the wet ingredients and microwave!

Does this recipe use eggs?

Chocolate chip mug cake is a no egg recipe for people looking for a sweet treat without eggs.

Recipe Tips

If you’re looking for a light and fluffy mug cake, having all of your ingredients are at room temperature before you start baking will help!

Cake too dry?

  • Make sure that you are using the correct amount of flour. If you use too much flour, the cake will be dry.
  • Do not overcook the cake. If you overcook the cake, it will also be dry and crumbly.
  • Add a bit more milk before baking. This will help to make the cake more moist.

Cake too wet?

  • Make sure that you are using the correct amount of flour. If you use too little flour, the cake will be wet.
  • Add a bit more cooking time if your cake is wet. Do it in short time increments (10-15 seconds) so you don’t overbake it.
  • If your batter is too wet, add more flour.

Cake too tough?

  • Don’t overmix the batter. Overmixing will result in a tough cake.
